It's unfortunate that abortion apparently is the only individual "choice" the Democrats support...[I]t looks like the only decision John Kerry trusts women to make is the decision to have an abortion. He doesn't trust a woman to make the decision to invest her Social Security taxes in private accounts that would provide her a more comfortable retirement. He doesn't trust a woman to own a gun. He doesn't trust a woman to make her own decision on where her children will go to school...I'd like to hear a presidential candidate say, "I believe in a woman's right to choose. I believe in a woman's right to choose whether to have a child. I believe in a woman's right to choose any job someone will hire her for. I believe in a woman's right to choose to own a gun. I believe in a woman's right to choose the school she thinks is best for her child, public or private. I believe in a woman's right to choose what kinds of art she will spend her money on, even if she prefers Madonna or Randy Travis and Congress wants to give her money to Robert Mapplethorpe or Luciano Pavarotti. I believe in a woman's right to choose to drive a cab, even if she doesn't have a license. I believe in a woman's right to choose the employees she wants for her business, even if they don't fit some government quota. I believe in a woman's right to choose the drugs she prefers for recreation, whether she chooses Coors or cocaine. I believe in a woman's right to choose how to spend all of her hard-earned money, without giving half of it to the government.

A political party is dying before our eyes — and I don't mean the Democrats. I'm talking about the "mainstream media," which is being destroyed by the opposition (or worse, the casual disdain) of George Bush's Republican Party; by competition from other news outlets (led by the internet and Fox's canny Roger Ailes); and by its own fraying journalistic standards. At the height of its power, the AMMP (the American Mainstream Media Party) helped validate the civil rights movement, end a war and oust a power-mad president.

FINEMAN, HOWARD, The ‘Media Party’ Is Over, January 13, 2005

Despite the immiseration...of his people, his ruthless censorship, his omnipresent informants, and his prison camps for dissidents, homosexuals, and anyone else who aroused his ire, Castro is still venerated by many on the left. A little free healthcare, it seems, goes a long way toward excusing all manner of tyranny.

GILLESPIE, NICK, The Credulity of Castro’s Defenders, Reason, March 2007

A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money.

[D]emocracts with plans: plans for your money, plans for your social interactions, plans for who you can hire, and how you are allowed to organize your office furniture, and what you think, and...

Americans love their country and fear their government. Liberals love their government and fear the people.

NOONAN, PEGGY, from essay on Ronald Reagan for the Public Broadcasting System's presentation of Character Above All

[O]nce upon a time, Left thought was a genuine world-system, a coherent if tragically mistaken competitor to classical liberalism and capitalism. The Soviet Union used this theory for evil purposes, to seduce the intelligentsia of the West and foment among them anti-American, anti-capitalist hatred. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the Left's world-system collapsed with it. All that remained was a catalogue of resentments clothed in the tattered remnants of Marxist theory, but the Left intelligentsia never let go of this. As the theory crumbled, the resentments became the theory. So we are left with a Left that is more hysterically anti-American than ever, and willing to suck up to monstrous dictators like Saddam Hussein, precisely because it no longer knows what to be for.

RAYMOND, ERIC, Left2Right — A Critical Appraisal, December 8, 2004

You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream -- the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order -- or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked this downward path. Plutarch warned, "The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits."

REAGAN, RONALD, A Time for Choosing speech, endorsing Barry Goldwater’s presidential nomination, October 27, 1964

Traditionally, women have had a vast support system for themselves and their children, including husbands, immediate family, extended family, church or synagogue, and community-based charitable organizations. The left-liberals have worked to undermine these support mechanisms, replacing them with what Hillary Clinton calls a "village," by which she means centralized government controlled by left-liberals.
